Valley of Fire Field Trip - March 19, 2018

It was a beautiful sunrise and morning at Valley of Fire State Park! Larry Jones, Sue Stevens, Dale Kavula and Diane Frankenfield participated in this field trip.

We started our morning photographing the sunrise then headed out for the Fire Wave Trail. We were the first people on the trail that morning, photographing the different sandstone formations and wildflowers.

One of the highlights of our hike was spotting a rare wildflower called a funnel lily along the trail – thanks to Larry’s eagle eyes!

The Fire Wave itself was beautiful, with swirling red, pink and white sandstone creating concentric circles around the formation.

After this walk, Dale and Larry
went on the White Domes Trail. They went through a slot canyon and got some really beautiful shots. They saw rock formations with holes to frame your photo. Shooting with a flash brightened the perimeter of the hole while framing the focal point outside. They also went to Mouse’s tank and photographed pictographs on black varnish. It was a wonderful day.

We hope you can join us for our April field trip when we will visit the Secret Garden at the Mirage. The date is April 19, 2018. We’ll be photographing different wildlife that are in residence there…look for more details to come on the website.
