Impressive talent was on display at the Annual Photography
Club Show on November 11. The show
displayed close to 200 photos, all taken by club members. Portraits,
landscapes, nature at its finest – there was something for everyone and the
close to 200 visitors seemed to agree.
For the first time in recorded memory, the Photo Club also
held a photo contest for not just club members but for all Sun City residents who
wished to enter photos with a Patriotic Theme.
All Sun City Summerlin residents attending the show could vote and just
about 95 of them did. First prize of
$100 was sponsored by Larry Jones of Keller Williams Realty. Second and third prizes were sponsored by
Dennis and J Filangeri of Core Business Enterprises LLC.
o
First Prize: Dennis Filangeri for Monument on Omaha Beach, taken in
Normandy, France.
o
Second Prize: Dale Kavula for American Flag, taken at Red Rock
Conservation Area
o
Third Prize: J Filangeri for Patriotic America taken in Ely, Nevada.
Club members pitched in to set up, keep things flowing smoothly all day, answer questions, hand out ballots, and then tear down everything at day's end. Volunteers included Joel Lugavere, Kathy Kirby, Don LeHeup, Marina Jurasek, Don Litton, Dale Kavula, Jake Presser, George Kertesz, Larry Jones, Joyce O'Keefe, and Dennis Filangeri and me (if I missed anyone, abject apologies). Special thanks to Adrian Cole, who handled all the sales and financial accounting as well as staying all day and helping set up and tear down.
All in all, it was a lot of work, but well worth it.
By the way, if you missed the event, you can see the
Patriotic Photo Contest entries in the window of the Photo Lab at Desert Vista.
